MELPe Bit-Order and Bit-Sensitivity

MELPe bitstream’s bit order is very important in order to maintain inter-operability with other vendors’ implementations, and to identify the bits that require different levels of error correction due to their different sensitivity to channel errors.

MELPe Bit-Order

Compandent’s MELPe implementations, and FLEXI-232 testbed DTE device, maintain standard compliance bitstream, and can be further adjusted to little-endian or big-endian per customers’ specifications.

MELPe Bit-Sensitivity

Compandent offers its customers with extensive information and research results related to the different levels MELPe bit sensitivity to channel errors. Our customers can use this information for applying different level of channel error coding to the different bit sensitivity groups, in order to achieve optimal quality in degraded channel conditions.

Variable Data Rate (VDR) Vocoder

A Variable Data Rate (VDR) vocoder is a voice encoder that dynamically adjusts the data rate based on the characteristics of the input speech and the channel conditions. It differs from fixed-rate vocoders, which use a constant bit rate for all frames of speech. VDR vocoders can offer improved voice quality in challenging environments by allocating more bits to complex speech segments and fewer bits to less complex segments

Variable Data Rate MELPe (VDR)

Compandent’s MELPe implementations can operate at varying rates. The MELPe rate can be adjusted on the fly based on the channel conditions and operate as Variable Data Rate (VDR) vocoder, to provide best overall quality.
